Mets Sign Rookie To Record Breaking Deal

Forget Stephen Strasburg or Aroldis Chapman, the Mets signed a record breaking $427 million 15 year contract on this kid…

His name is Darrell Sanford.  He is 3 months old, which will make him 15 years and 3 months old, when his contract is up.  We have no idea what position he will be playing because he has yet to walk, or speak for that matter.  Omar Minaya said he is unsure if this kid even will ever develop motor skills,  but said he remains committed to stocking the farm system with young prospects.

Sanford had this to say after the signing and receiving a check for $427 million…

Mets News – The Mets have a new left fielder and power bat.

Published by D-Money under Mets News, Mets Players

Ok folks. It is official. The Mets have come to an agreement with power hitting free agent left fielder Jason Bay. This news of course is pending a physical by the Mets doctors.

It is said that he signed to a 4 year $66 Million dollar deal. This might include an option for a 4th year as well. I guess the idea of Bay getting 5 years from any other team didn’t come into fruition.

In 2009 Bay hit roughly .270 with 119 RBI’s and 36 Homers. He is a career 280 hitter, averaging 30 homers and 90+ RBI’s in his six full season in the big leagues.

Jason Bay was a rookie of the year in 04′ and has made the all-star team 3 times.

I really hope this works out….

Am I the only one finding this strange.

Published by D-Money under Mets Pitching

After reading the latest article about the Mets new acquisition, Kelvim Escobar. I am just looking for news somewhere that is going to explain the reason for the Mets recent pitching staff signings. They are signing nothing but injury plagued over the hill clowns, or just straight up nobodies. Are they trying to get some extra pieces for a future trade? I wish I could spend a day in the mind of Omar & Co.

To Kelvim Escobar, It seems the Mets have signed him to a 1 year deal worth somewhere around $1.25 Million. Since putting up 18 wins in 2007. Escobar has been a non-factor in MLB. Escobar has some good relief experience. Word on the street is that his is going to be given a shot at middle relief / setup man. I guess it can’t get any worse.

Who in the world is R.A. Dickey?

Published by D-Money under Mets News, Mets Pitching

The Mets are on the verge of an agreement with a 35 year old knuckleballer named R.A. Dickey. Another no named sub .500 pitcher on the roster. Who would have thought….

Just not sure what the actual reasoning behind this is? Why don’t they sign an actual minor league prospect to a minor league contract instead of an old road warrior. Where is this going? Is he someone that can be used in a future trade? Who else would want this guy?

Mets snooze and lose on right hander Marquis

I am pretty excited that the Mets have put in some effort to better there line up with the likes of Jason Bay. I am pretty excited that they are taking into consideration that if they want to get the most out of there pitchers. They need a good experiences catcher with a good baseball mind in the likes of Bengie Molina. I feel that both of these great player would add to the current Mets roster.

In the wake of all the rumors of Bay leveraging the Mets against themselves. The hold up of Molina wanting that extra year on his contract despite the fact that he is 35 years old. The Mets have seem to have completely forgot about the fact that they are in extreme need for starting pitching.

It is a very well known fact that in order to compete late in the year (post-season). You have to have at least 2 aces in your lineup. John Maine, Mike Pelfrey or Oliver Perez are 4th or 5th in the rotation on any playoff bound team in the league. If you ask me, they would be lucky to even be on the roster of a team that is competing come October.

I am not saying that I am love with Jason Marquis either. His best year came in 2004 when he went 15-7 with a 3.71 ERA. Since then he has been nothing but average. His career pitching numbers being just above .500 with an ERA close to 4.50. He did have a good start last year making the All-Star team for the first time in his career due to a 11-6 start. The second half of the season didn’t go as well finishing up at 15-13.

After going on about how shitty Marquis is. I realized that the mets probably didn’t lose out on this. More so passing up another opportunity on the next Oliver Perez. But where do they go next. Is there anyone else out there in the mix? All of the real pitchers have been snatched up by contenders.

Is there any big name players out these that even care to play for this organization anymore?

Mets sign Igarashi with hopes for a setup man.

Published by D-Money under Mets News, Mets Players

In there search for a setup man. The Mets have given a two-year deal to Japanese flame thrower Ryota Igarashi. Igarashi, who supports a few pitches including a mid to upper 90’s fastball was 3-2 last year with a 3.19 ERA. He is the favorite to be the setup man for all-star closer A-Rod. Luckily he does not have much competition at this position. The other likely people for this job are Parnell, Stokes and Sean Green.

Biggest pitching deal of the year is signed, sealed and delivered.

Published by D-Money under Other Baseball News

The deal is done. Roy Halladay is officially a Philly, Cliff Lee is officially a Mariner and the Mets have jack shit on a record breaking trade sending two Cy Young winners to new teams in one day.

Roy Halladay signed a 3 year extension worth $20 Million a year. He has an option for the fourth year with some crazy caveats which are: pitches 225 innings in 2013, pitches 415 innings combined in 2012 and 2013 and is not on the disabled list at the end of the 2013 season. This basically means as long as he doesn’t get hurt. He will probably be there for the extra year.

We can thank the original Cliff Lee deal for the reasoning behind why they had to get rid of him in this trade. Between this deal and getting Cliff Lee from Cleveland. The Phillies gave up a ton of good prospects. They did not want to be left without any up and comers in there farm system. If they would have kept Lee, that means they would have given up 7 out of there 10 best prospects in the last 2 years.

Not sure Jason Bay is going to cure this.
